My Art Experience The 4th -> @artwithohbe_ Exhibition Of Winning Works PTA Art Museum
On the 30th Sept 2017 we went on
to attend an exhibition tittled “Exhibition of Winning Works” which was
exhibited at The Pretoria Art Museum.
Being a fan of contemporary art and your abstract
art, this exhibition had so much varied art expressions which then made sense
why it was made up by contestants and winners from a competition led by SASOL
under their Art programe that they call “New Signatures’
What mainly attracts me to a certain art
piece is undeniably the thought behind its creation and by no doubt the message
behind it.
I’ve seen art pieces that left me jaw
dropped for 20mins or so, depending how quickly I noticed such, and I’ve also
seen art pieces that afford me a single glimse at them then proceeding to the
next. However, Attending this exhibition, I was rather emotionally taken on a
journey by an exhibited story by Refiloehape Alphons Bothata Matsoso from
Rhodes university on her piece titled Her Conscious Conscience Photography.
It depicted a story of a girl anguished by
the tittles the society glues up on her due to her outer appearance, she seeing
herself in her own image and defines herself in meaning that she approves but
challenged by the societies definitions of those that she does not approve.
Two more of the amazing pieces I loved were
one by Carol Anne Preston from Pretoria simply titled Cocoon and Salvaged
Timber by Michael Roderick Wedderburn from Port Elizabeth.
The exhibition was overall wonders with 60%
or more art pieces and painting depicting my least favorite mixed media art
works. I believe there is more to offer to art than to portray mixed media
artworks, its in my finding, unparalleled and at times defines/holds forth
little to no meaning at all. The exhibition could’ve been much better if
Photographs were allowed to be taken, I still prefer using my lens than using a
booklet to reference my readers to.
The exhibition ran from 31st
August to 8th October 2017, if you’ve missed it surely you can view
artworks through their website below.
